As a media partner of Paris Images Digital Summit, we are happy to announce to you that Joe Letteri (Senior VFX Supervisor at Weta Digital) will receive the GENIE Lifetime Achievement Award in January 2017 during the third edition of the Digital Creation GENIE Awards!
Here is the press release:
The GENIE Lifetime Achievement Award rewards a personality of the digital creation industry for significant and lasting contributions to the art and science by way of vision, artistry, invention and innovation. For its edition 2017, the GENIE Awards will celebrate Joe Letteri’s work at Weta Digital.
Joe Letteri is a Senior Visual Effects Supervisor for Weta Digital. He is the recipient of four Academy Awards for Best Visual Effects for his outstanding work on the movies Avatar, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and King Kong.
A pioneer in his field, he has won the Academy’s Technical Achievement Award for co-developing the subsurface scattering technique that brought Gollum to life. This is not the least of his achievement as he also developed specific techniques that have become standardized in the work of VFX supervisors.
Joe Letteri and Weta Digital keep improving these techniques and researching new ways of creating visual effects with exceptional photographic quality, larger and more complex shots.
Joe Letteri is currently working with Luc Besson for the most awaited Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, and with James Cameron on the three next movies of the Avatar franchise.
Joe Letteri joins Neil Corbould, Dennis Muren (ILM), Jacques Bled and Rodolphe Chabrier (Max Guff) previously awarded from the last two ceremonies of the Digital Creation GENIE Awards.
